AI is rapidly reshaping how science is conducted. From analysing vast astrophysical datasets to accelerating drug discovery and improving climate modelling, AI is becoming a fundamental driver of scientific discovery. However, despite significant investments and technological progress, Europe’s AI-enabled research landscape remainsfragmented across disciplines, infrastructures, and communities. The SCIANCE project was created to address this challenge and to help Europe harness AI’s full potential for scientific advancement.
Why AI in Science Needs Coordination
AI is transforming science, but adoption across Europe is fragmented. Research communities often work in isolation, and infrastructures are unevenly developed. SCIANCE provides a structured framework, linking disciplines, infrastructures, and policymakers to accelerate discovery while reducing duplication and ensuring strategic alignment.

Objectives & Impact
SCIANCE has four key objectives:
Project Overview
Funding
SCIANCE is funded by the European Union Grant Agreement Number 101293570
Coordination
SCIANCE is coordinated by European Science Foundation (ESF)
Duration
The project will run for 30 months (1.12.2025-30.5.2028)
Consortium
SCIANCE brings together 13 leading scientific organisations, research and digital infrastructures from 9 European countries.
