SCIANCE activities during AIS26 

On 15 and 16 October 2026, the AI in Science Summit 2026 (AIS26), organised by the European Commission and the Irish Presidency of the Council, will take place in Dublin, Ireland. 

SCIANCE will play an active role in the Summit, organising a dedicated RAISE session, the RAISE Desk, the RAISE Community Challenge Lab, and a SCIANCE Expert workshop on Open Science and Trustworthy AI for European Research. Through these activities, SCIANCE will showcase developments from the RAISE pilot phase, present key project outputs, and engage the community in identifying strategic priorities for AI-enabled scientific research in Europe. 

Also during AIS26, two major RAISE engagement opportunities, supported by SCIANCE will be launched: RAISE Hub and RAISE Forum.

The European Engine for Scientific Discovery: How RAISE (Resource for AI Science in Europe) is Taking Shape (organised by SCIANCE and DG RTD) 

Strand: RAISE and Global Policy for AI in Research  - Time: 14:45-15:30 IST (15:45-16:30 CET), Thursday 15 October 2026 

This session will present the latest developments in RAISE and its role in strengthening the European AI in Science ecosystem. The SCIANCE project will report on progress from the RAISE pilot phase, covering preliminary findings from the European AI in Science state-of-the-art and landscape analysis, the introduction of the RAISE Digital Hub and RAISE Forum, and upcoming opportunities for community engagement. It will be followed by a high-level panel discussion exploring strategic priorities for RAISE, including governance models, scientific and AI research challenges, opportunities for AI-enabled discovery, and long-term sustainability.

The RAISE desk provides an opportunity to connect with members of the RAISE community, exchange ideas, discuss scientific and policy challenges, explore potential collaborations, and share feedback on RAISE. Whether you are a scientist, AI researcher, infrastructure provider or policymaker, the RAISE Desk offers a place to learn, network and shape the future of AI-enabled scientific discovery in Europe. 

What challenges do you face in your use of AI for scientific research?

Join the RAISE Community Challenge Lab, a hybrid community engagement activity taking place during AIS26, bringing together researchers, policymakers, research managers, infrastructure providers, industry representatives and other stakeholders from across the AI-in-Science ecosystem. Through a combination of in-person discussions and online participation via the RAISE Forum, participants will be invited to react to thought-provoking challenge statements, share experiences, identify emerging concerns and propose potential solutions.

The Community Challenge Lab seeks to capture the pulse of the European AI-in-Science community, uncover recurring challenges and emerging trends, and identify areas requiring further attention. Insights gathered during the Summit will contribute to ongoing SCIANCE co-creation activities, including the development of the AI in Science Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), and inform broader RAISE discussions. Whether attending AIS26 in person or remotely, you are invited to contribute your perspective and help shape the conversation on the future of AI in Science. 

How does it work?  Through a combination of in-person discussions and online participation via the RAISE Forum, we will pre-identify 'AI in Science' challenges. These challenges will be identified and finetuned before the event. During the event, you will be able to finetune, discuss, or even contradict the statements, based on your own expertise and experiences from the field. During an engaging round-table discussion, we will identify missing dimensions, discuss implications for different scientific communities, and propose potential solutions, actions, and support mechanisms.  

Insights gathered during the RAISE Community Challenge Lab will contribute to ongoing SCIANCE co-creation activities, including the development of the AI in Science Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), and inform broader RAISE discussions.

Shaping the RAISE SRIA: Open Science and Trustworthy AI for European Research 

Time: 13.00 - 16.30 IST (14.00 - 17.30 CET), Friday 16 October 2026 (Side Event) 

This expert workshop, organised by OpenAIRE, builds on the work of the Open Science and Trustworthy AI SCIANCE Working Group. Through an interactive process, researchers, practitioners and policy experts will explore key topics related to open and trustworthy AI for scientific research, assess key developments, identify emerging challenges and gaps, and develop recommendations to inform the RAISE Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and future European priorities for AI in and for Science.
