SCIANCE Announces AI in Science Working Groups (AISWG) selection

Following the call for experts to join the SCIANCE AI in Science Working Groups (AISWGs), the project has finalised the selection of members who will drive the community-led inputs for the Resource for AI Science in Europe (RAISE).
The 10 specialised working groups bring together a cross-disciplinary mix of scientists, data engineers, and infrastructure experts. Their primary mandate is to identify specific domain requirements, bridge gaps between AI research and scientific infrastructures, and co-create the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
An analysis of the selected experts shows the demographic, geographical, and professional distribution across the working groups:
- Seniority Distribution: The groups are heavily driven by established experts, with Senior professionals making up 80.0% of the cohort (120 members). Mid-level professionals represent 14.7% (22 members), while Early-career researchers account for 4.7% (7 members), with one member status unspecified.
- Gender Representation: Across the 150 positions, 69.3% identify as Male (104 members), 26.0% as Female (39 members), and 4.7% (7 members) chose not to disclose or left the field blank.
- Geographical Diversity: Selected members represent institutions across 24 countries. The largest institutional representations come from Germany (29), the Netherlands (18), Spain (16), the United Kingdom (14), France (11), and Italy (10).
- Institutional Profile: Members are primarily distributed between Academia (Universities) and major national and European Research Centres (e.g., CNRS, INFN, Fraunhofer, Athena RC, CZ.NIC), ensuring a strong link between theoretical AI development and practical infrastructure execution.
